The Piano   Leave a comment

A mute woman, her daughter and her prized piano, are sent to New Zealand (1850) for an arranged marriage to a wealthy landowner. She ends up falling in love with a plantation worker. Holly Hunter won an oscar for her role without uttering one word! This is a very moving film. Put this on your list as one to see.

This is a good movie about three women who come together on a road trip, but end up becoming the best of friends, through a mutual understanding, respect, and love for each other. This is an example of life throwing a monkey wrench into your plans for yourself. You never know who will come into your life and love you unconditionally.

I enjoyed this movie. I found it to be a very insightful glimpse into the psyche of America. Race and the stereotypes we cling to is the theme of this movie. The characters are credible with an all star cast. This movie really makes you think about your perception of others.

Dig this one out of the archives. White Palace, starring Susan Sarandon and James Spader, is a drama about an unlikely romance between two people from different walks of life. The characters are real and beautifully portrayed by the talented pair. Although the outcome is a bit unrealistic, in my opinion, it is still a very good movie.

I love a good movie! I am particularly fond of dramas that feature complex or unlikely relationships between people who are very different from one another. I am also a fan of suspense; the classic whodunit, the surprise ending.
I tend to watch movies as if I am on the set with the crew. I am paying attention to the script, the words used in telling the story. What is the vision of the director and how he achieves his goal. Are the actors convincing in their characters roles? How did they create that special effect? How much did they pay all those extras? Wow, that stuntman is amazing!
So, a good movie for me is one that fulfills both the entertainment value and utter amazement at seeing a collaboration of skill and talent put it all together.
